3. Style & signature visuelle

Le style de Hamou est immédiatement reconnaissable :

  • dessins détaillés en lignes fines rappelant la gravure ou l’eau-forte ;
  • univers nocturne, mystique, onirique ;
  • figures hybrides, animaux symboliques, iconographie occultiste (au sens esthétique, jamais littéral) ;
  • composition dense mais parfaitement structurée ;
  • préférence pour les contrastes noir / ivoire et les palettes limitées ;

  • Foo Fighters
  • Jack White
  • Queens of the Stone Age
  • Mastodon
  • Interpol

Montreal illustrator and poster artist known for his gig posters, screen-printed editions, and a graphic universe blending engraving-style linework, nocturnal surrealism, and musical iconography. Active both locally and internationally, he is one of the most influential poster artists of contemporary Montreal.

1. Overview

Pat Hamou is a Montreal illustrator whose reputation extends beyond Quebec. His work, often tied to the music world, is characterized by meticulous detail and a visual language evoking old engraving, fantasy, and symbolic imagery.

A prolific artist, he creates concert posters, limited-edition screen prints, and illustrations for cultural events, festivals, and international touring artists.

2. Early career

Hamou studied Commercial Design at Dawson College in the early 1990s, where he developed a visual culture nurtured by comics, alternative music, macabre art, and traditional illustration techniques.

He first worked as a graphic designer before gradually shifting toward independent illustration. With the rise of gig posters as a recognized art form in the early 2000s, he established himself as one of the key figures of the Quebec scene.

His network expanded quickly: promoters, festivals, screen-printing collectives, international bands and cultural organizations regularly commissioned him for original pieces.

3. Style & visual signature

Hamou’s style is instantly recognizable:

  • detailed drawings with fine engraving-like lines;
  • a nocturnal, mystical, dreamlike atmosphere;
  • hybrid figures, symbolic animals, and occult-leaning imagery (aesthetic, never literal);
  • dense yet perfectly structured compositions;
  • a preference for black / ivory contrasts and limited palettes;
  • organic textures, feathers, fur, and repeating patterns.

His posters are conceived as art objects, often screen-printed on thick paper, signed and numbered.

4. Gig posters & musical collaborations

Pat Hamou has been creating concert posters for more than twenty years, for both local and international artists. His work bridges the Montreal scene with major touring acts.

Associated artists & groups (selected)

  • Foo Fighters
  • Jack White
  • Queens of the Stone Age
  • Mastodon
  • Interpol
  • Osheaga (special visuals & prints)
  • Evenko / Live Nation Montreal

He also creates posters for cultural events, exhibitions, and Montreal-based organizations.

5. Exhibitions & publications

His work has been featured in several gig-poster exhibitions in Quebec and abroad. Specialized magazines and visual-culture websites regularly highlight his creations.

Many of his prints have become sought-after pieces among Montreal graphic-art collectors.

6. Influence & importance

Thanks to his technical mastery and unique visual identity, Pat Hamou is widely recognized as one of Montreal’s most important poster artists.

He significantly contributes to the tradition of the Montreal gig poster, linking local punk, rock, indie, and metal scenes to a contemporary international aesthetic.

Within the Montreal Concert Poster Archive, his work holds a central place in documenting the visual artists who have shaped the graphic identity of Montreal concerts since the early 2000s.
